Music has a special place in my life. I remember when I was four or five and my dad was always playing those Chinese records on the player, and cassettes in the car audio. And I would always listen attentively. I can still remember some of the songs played then. When I was a secondary (junior high) school student, I found music a nice retreat from studies, and would often hum and sing alone. When I was in junior college (senior high), I grew bolder and would sing together with classmates. Songs would also often remind me of places and events. I don’t sing as much now, mainly because the quality of my voice has deteriorated so much from too much shouting, but I still enjoy listening to music and a rare occasional singing.

I’m a baby-boomer, which explains why I like oldies. Below are some of my favorites (arranged in alphabetical order of song title).

“Kiss Me” — Six Pence None The Richer

“Look For A Star” — Garry Miles/Garry Mills

“Only Wanna Be With You” — Hootie & The Blowfish

“Rainy Day People” — Gordon Lightfoot

“Tammy” — Debbie Reynolds

“They Don’t Know” — Tracey Ullman

“What A Wonderful World” — Louis Armstrong

“You Can’t Hurry Love” — Diana Ross & The Supremes
