Had dinner with family yesterday night at Imperium (391A Orchard Road, #07-01 Podium Block, Ngee Ann City, Singapore 238872). Imperium is the largest restaurant belonging to Tung Lok Group. It serves cuisine from Hunan, Hubei, and Sichuan. We had shark cartilage soup, baked cod with spring onions, steamed ribs in bamboo, crispy honey eel, and sea cucumber with bittergourd. Sadly, none of the dishes were outstanding. The steamed ribs in bamboo is an over-rated dish that is rather flavourless. Service, however, is good. We were given a private dinning room.
Had lunch with some friends at The Tea Spa (Caltex House, Raffles Place, Singapore) few days back. All of us took their executive set, which comprises a soup, a main course (which you choose from a selection of salads, sandwiches, and pasta), and a tea. I had mushroom soup and pasta aglio olio, which are average, but the selection of tea is very good. We also ordered some desserts, which turned out to be rather interesting. Ambience is minimalistic and nice, but staff service is atrocious -- very inattentive and forgetful -- gives no sense that they are interested in serving you. This restaurant is on the pricey side.
Celebrated my brother-in-law's birthday with my family at Peach Blossoms (Level 5, Marina Mandarin, Singapore) last night. We had baked cod, deep-fried seafood rolls, scallops with mayonaise, prawn and asparagus rolls, sliced fish with mushrooms and ham, and stewed pork. I liked the cod best. The ambience is good, in a traditional Chinese setting. Service is courteous and polite, but a little inattentive. I had to frequently remind the waiters and waitresses to fill my tea cup.
