Ganesha Ek Sanskriti, Jakarta, Indonesia

Had dinner with colleagues and business partners two nights ago at Ganesha Ek Sanskriti (9th Floor, CP 901, Center Park Gedung BRI II, Jl. Jend. Sudirman Kav. 44-46, Jakarta 10210). This Indian restaurant is only 4 months old and is very nicely decorated. We ordered tandoori chicken, tandoori prawns, butter chicken, chicken tikka, lamb curry, vegetable kebab, naan, kulcha, and a bottle of red wine, which is nothing to shout about.

The papadams given to us as appetizers were not very good and became a little soft at the end. The tandoori chicken is surprisingly succulent, a change from the usual dried out tandoori chicken you get in most Indian restaurants. The tandoori prawns were a let-down though. The prawns were not fresh and had a mushy texture instead of being firm and crunchy. The butter chicken is flavourful. I did not try the lamb curry and vegetable kebab as they look rather unappealing to me. The naan and kulcha breads are quite well done.

On the whole, the dinning experience is above average, but they really need to train their waiters to handle wines. A waiter wanted to pour wine to the brim of the glass for one of our guests when I noticed and abrubtly stopped him!

I have been to Ganesha Ek Sanskriti several times. To be honest with all Indians in Jakarta if you miss your home and food from home then just try Ganesha Ek Sanskriti. Truely a sanskriti which is well maintained with lots of love and affection. One place which tries to provide you the ambiance of your home love of your people respect as a fellow Indian. Food is great and you will never find anything rotton or smelly there. The management is extra careful to maintain the freshness of the food and staffs are very friendly. I wish them all the best and very sure they will be known one of the best very soon. Of course in Jakarta no other Indian resturants is as good as Ganesha.
